Creating is hard work. Inspiration and ideas are of little value unless you can take action and turn them into something tangible. To do this, you need to equip yourself with a skill-set that helps you soldier through the process.
Happenchance can help you build these skills.
If you’d like to build your skills, you should subscribe to Happenchance for free email updates. My updates are convenient, spam-free, and are guaranteed never to flood your inbox.
Who Am I?
My name is Seth M. Baker. I started this site in July ’09 while living abroad. I’d always done a fair amount of creative work, but resistance and fear plagued me. I decided to blog about these topics in order to learn more and share what I’ve learned. Since then, this site and I have grown together.
Here are 5 things relevant to my creative journey.
1. After I earned my English degree, I received a letter from the real world which read: ‘you are nothing to us. You’re not one of us. We don’t want you.’ At first I was sad, but then I said ‘okay, real world, I’ll do something far more interesting.’ I devoted myself to music and struggled to write fiction. During this time, I started and failed two Appalachian Trail thru-hikes.
2. Frustrated with my lack of creative output, I saved a boatload of cash and went on 3-month solo trip to Europe in 2006. This trip was the kick in the ass I needed to get serious about my creative work.
3. I proposed to my long-time girlfriend on Christmas Eve 2007 on the zocala in Oaxaca, Mexico. She said yes and we were married a few months later.
4. In 2009, I moved to South Korea with my blushing bride to teach English to schoolchildren. On a whim, I started this fine site. After our contracts ended and we overstayed over visas, I took a working vacation in Thailand to finish an as-yet-unreleased sci-fi/fantasy/spy novel entitled The End of the Iron Age.
5. I currently live on a small farm in the backwoods of Appalachia. I’m working on a follow-up to TEotIA, as well as a music project, a few affiliate sites and, of course, this fine site. I can’t say they’re all amazing, but I try my damnedest.
You’re welcome to follow me on Twitter.
As always, thanks for reading. I look forward to hearing from you.
